History Department
History Department : Philosophy
It is the intention of the History Department to promote enjoyment and enthusiasm of historical enquiry through the following means:
* To read widely and to learn to appreciate and evaluate historical sources.
Discussion and debate
Research, in groups and as individuals
Reporting to peer groups
* To promote high academic standards, especially in the quality of written work and in the historical skills, through regular task setting and marking, identifying positive achievement and promoting confidence in a pupils ability to achieve.
* To show history in as wide a context as possible, showing the different media through which history can be appreciated, through cross curricular links especially identifying the achievements of women in pas ages and the literary, linguistic, scientific and technological developments.
* To promote high self esteem of our pupils, through positive encouragement both orally and in written work.
* To encourage as many pupils in Year 10 to opt for GCSE History as possible and to encourage as many sixth formers to opt to take A Level History as possible. Consequently, to promote the History Department as a lively, forward looking and exciting department, offering valuable, enjoyable and successful experience, first rate qualifications and an opportunity to pursue their careers with confidence.
