WELCOME…to the Parents’ Association here at Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls. As a prospective new parent member, we hope that the following information will give you an insight into the workings of our group and answer some of the questions you may have.

The Parents’ Association is a registered charity whose purpose is to support the School and, through events to raise money which is used to benefit the pupils. In the past we have donated money towards the cost of refurbishing science labs and the Sixth Form Common Room, donated towards a new mini-bus, helped to equip the Library and have funded a new sound system for the Hall. We have also helped to provide many smaller items such as science, sports, gym and geography equipment, digital cameras, headphones, microphones and display boards. Our project for 2008 is to raise £7,500 for the refurbishment and upgrade of the drama studio.

The Parents’ Association Committee is made up of parents and guardians of existing pupils. The Head Teacher, Mrs Kaye Harrison, is our Honorary President. We meet every four-six weeks, usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday, with each meeting starting at 8pm and lasting about one hour. In addition to this, we hold an annual AGM in October. Dates of all of our meetings are decided well in advance and, although Committee members are encouraged to attend as many meetings as possible, if one particular date causes difficulties, we simply ask that apologies are forwarded to either the Secretary or the Chairman prior to the meeting. A copy of the minutes following each meeting is forwarded to members via e-mail or internal school post.

The events organised throughout the year by the Committee to raise money include quiz nights, discos, fashion shows, car boot sales and guest speaker evenings. We also run refreshment stalls at school events such as concerts, open evenings and New Parents’ evening.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN JOINING US?

We can only be successful if people are prepared to get involved. It does not matter if you have no previous experience of being on a Parents’ Association. We welcome all new volunteers. Equally, if you have been involved with the running of a Parents’ Association before, please let us know: we may be able to learn from you!

For further information about joining us, please  contact Lindsey Holman via email l.holman@btinternet.com

We look forward to meeting you…
