A specialist science college
SCGSG was awarded Science College status in September 2004, in recognition of the high numbers studying A levels with excellent results, particularly in Mathematics and Science. The status brings the school a additional budget (around £120,000 per year) to improve standards in Science and Mathematics, both within the school and the local community, over a 4 year period.
OUR VISION:
We will create a challenging learning environment with modern facilities for independent study and the maximum exploitation of ICT. We will seize upon the potential for excitement, enthusiasm and creativity to create a scientific ethos in which all will share. The improvement in the quality of teaching and learning in science and mathematics will be harnessed to drive forward whole school improvement. We will break down the traditional barriers between school and the community to raise our profile as an active partner in a learning society. We will also work alongside local organisations and businesses working with the girls to enrich the experiences of all. We will develop a clear culture of “learning to learn” with staff and girls sharing a repertoire of strategies to help each other, and analysing progress and action for further improvement.
