Independent Learning Centre
The Independent Learning Centre is based in the newly refurbished Room 16, adjacent to the Library.
This new facility is equipped with laptops and a library of study skills books of which more have been ordered. The ILC also boasts a wide variety of AS/A-Level text books which can either be used in the reference area or borrowed from the Library.
Due to a generous donation, we have been able to purchase 32 new internet-linked wireless laptops to assist the Sixth Form students with their study. It is hoped that these will also encourage independent learning which is particularly important in years 12 & 13.
An Independent Learning Adviser was recruited at the beginning of September who will be initially assisting the Sixth Form students in areas such as coursework research, exam revision and learning techniques. She will also be using the ILC to promote independent learning both to teachers and to students. This support is expected to eventually improve study skills across the whole of the school.
The Independent Learning Centre will provide a quiet place for independent study where pupils can receive assistance with their work in a supportive and industrious atmosphere.
